Statistical publications “FADN survey results” are annually published since 1996. The publication of 2014 is based on accountancy data from 1304 family farms and 41 agricultural companies. Selected farms cover all districts, natural zones and reflect different farming conditions. After the EU accession in 2004 Lithuania usually delivers data of 1050-1160 farms to the EU Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). Lithuanian economic size threshold for FADN survey is 4 thousand Euro.

Typology of the FADN sample was calculated based on SO 2010 coefficients (Table 3), weighting of results was done with regard to FSS 2013.

Like in previous years, statistical results of family farms and agricultural companies are presented separately, as they are very different from both economic size and labour input. Some types of farming and economic size classes are aggregated. Weighted averages per farm are calculated for each group and whole country. Data of the previous year per country is also presented, what enables to compare farming results in the course of the last two years. Structures of the sample farms (family farms and agricultural companies) are revealed in the tables 4 and 5 respectively.

In family farms yield of most crops (except for potatoes and field vegetables) was slightly higher, however, purchasing prices lower, what resulted in decrease of output crops by 13,5 per cent, compared to 2013. Similar situation was in livestock sector. Number of livestock declined in the farms of all types, average LU per farm decreased by 12,9 per cent. On the other hand, slightly increased milk yield per cow and amounted to 5220 kg. Though the costs were also lower, Farm Net Income declined by 30,9 per cent, compared to 2013.

In agricultural companies the situation was similar to family farms: increased crop yields, decreased purchasing prices for most crop and livestock products, however milk yield per cow increased significantly and reached 7893 kg compared to 7151 kg per cow in 2013. Farm Net Income per 1 ha UAA increased by 23,5 per cent.

Cereal and milk sectors are very important to the Lithuanian agriculture, therefore, some indicators of these farm types in the EU countries are presented in the tables 6 and 7. Period of 2010-2012 is covered in these tables. Though economic size of Lithuanian cereal farm is not large, in 2012 average wheat yield reached the EU average. Milk farms are almost smallest in the EU (number of dairy cows per farm is lower only in Romania), milk yield is also rather low compared to the EU average.

This publication contains 50 tables. Both family farms and agricultural companies are grouped by:

  • economic size;
  • type of farming;
  • area;
  • land quality point.

In addition family farms are grouped by:

  • farmer’s age;
  • counties;
  • less favoured (LFA) and normal areas;
  • organic farms.

Types of farming in family farms (row headings in the tables of family farms):

  1. 1. specialist cereals, oilseeds and protein crops (TF 15);
  2. 2. general field cropping, mixed cropping (TF 16, 61);
  3. 3. horticulture and permanent crops (TF 23, 38);
  4. 4. specialist dairying (TF 45);

  6. 6. specialist granivores (TF 51, 52);
  7. 7. field crops-grazing livestock, combined (TF 83);
  8. 8. various crops and livestock combined (TF 84).

Types of farming in agricultural companies (row headings in the tables of agricultural companies):

  1. 1. crops (TF 15, 16);
  2. 2. specialist dairying (TF 45);
  3. 3. specialist granivores (TF 51, 52);
