LAEI launches an international development project “RESTinBSR - Unlocking transformative ecotourism potential for sustainable regional development” under Interreg Baltic Sea Region Seed Money funding scheme.


Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics launches an international development project “RESTinBSR - Unlocking transformative ecotourism potential for sustainable regional development”, implemented under the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Seed Money funding scheme, project no. #S060.

 

The overall objective of RESTinBSR is to prepare the main project, which aims to support and develop ecotourism as alternative to the mass tourism. The main project aims at unlocking the potential of such innovative form of ecotourism as transformative ecotourism. Transformative eco tourist has more goals aiming very deeply understand a travel destination's culture dealing with environmentally friendly and responsible behaviour for self-transformation. The project will seek to use transnational learning and cooperation for developing a set of innovative tools for promotion of ecotourism business with focus on development of such innovative form as transformative ecotourism.

 

Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics (Lithuania) is leading RESTinBSR. Planned outputs will be elaborated together with Project partners: University of Latvia, Faculty of Social Sciences (Latvia); European Rural Development Network (ERDN) (Poland) and Council of Municipalities of Sankt Petersburg (Russia). The project also invited aassociated partners who hold potential to become partners for new main project: ZEGG – Center for Experimental Cultural and Social Design (Germany); The Association of Consultants in Cooperation Network (Sweden); Tourismusverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern e. V. (Germany) and other.

 

Project duration: 1 October 2020 – 31 September 2021.

 

On October 7, 2020 RESTinBSR partners due to COVID-19 travelling restrictions connected for the kick-off meeting via Microsoft Teams platform. Project partners presented preparatory findings on the state of tourism including transformative ecotourism in their countries, discussed project implementation issues and generated ideas for the main project.
