Researchers of the Institute of Economics and Rural Development participated in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region Annual Forum in Finland

The European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) is the first Macro-regional Strategy in Europe. The Strategy was approved by the European Council in 2009 following a communication from the European Commission. The Strategy is divided into three objectives, which represent the three key challenges of the Strategy: saving the sea, connecting the region and increasing prosperity. Each objective relates to a wide range of policies and has an impact on the other objectives.


The EU Strategy for Baltic Sea Region Annual Forum is held every year in one of the countries of the Baltic Sea Region. This year, the EUSBSR forum “Putting Plans into Practice” was held in Lappeenranta, Finland, where political and expert-level conferences, discussions and seminars took place for almost a week. Various participants from European Union and Baltic Sea Regions such as politicians, public government stakeholders, experts, researchers, representatives of civil society and non-governmental organizations participated in prosperous and constructive discussions on the future of Baltic Sea Region.


Researchers Dr. Živile Gedminaitė-Raudonė, dr. Rita Lankauskiene and dr. Vitalija Simonaitytė represented the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences, Institute of Economics and Rural Development, and have participated in discussions on how to create a prosperous, cooperative and green region, made new contacts to implement joint cooperation activities with other scientists from the Baltic Sea Region.
